Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Wednesday said that the government’s skill development initiatives are demand-driven and chalked out by keeping the industry need. The MoS was replying to a query raised by the Member of Parliament Kartikeya Sharma during the question hour in Rajya Sabha.

The MP asked that does the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana have any mechanisms or schemes with the private sector to close the demand-supply gaps and help create jobs for young people where they are needed? The minister replied, “All the skilling programs are demand-driven. It means that we sit together with the industry and their sector skills council to discuss the program regarding which training needs to be given. The best guarantor of employable skills is that these skills are designed with the industry as a partner.” There are many other initiatives, the minister told the Rajya Sabha adding the government is ensuring there are Rozgaar Melas, Apprenticeship Melas to take forward the initiative. “Also, we are creating digital platforms where the staff can discuss skills and opportunities.

In short, I want to say, we create employable skills and for that, we have developed a district skill development plan through the district skill committee in each district so that a unique district program is created in every district.”
