During the seven-day NSS camp jointly organised by the NSS units of Government College in Sector-1, a voter awareness rally traversed from Major Sandeep Sankhla Memorial Park in Sector-2 to the slums in Sector-32 on Sunday.
Commencing the rally, volunteers paid homage to the Ashok Chakra recipient, Major Sandeep Sankhla, by laying floral tributes at his bust and chanting slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Major Sandeep Sankhla Amar Rahe.”
The election law officer, Kuldeep Hooda, flagged off the voter awareness rally. Prior to the departure, Hooda enlightened the volunteers on the significance of voting, emphasizing that it is everyone’s right. He urged all to participate in every election and raise awareness among those around them to become voters.
Deepak Kumar, an educator in the education department, also addressed the volunteers, highlighting the equal voting rights granted to both the rich and the poor. He stressed the importance of making informed decisions without succumbing to temptation while casting votes. The rally employed posters and placards with slogans such as “Mera Vote, Meri Pehchaan” and “Apni Shakti Pehchan, Chalo Kareen Hum Sab Voting” to raise awareness about voting. Upon reaching the slum, volunteers staged a street play titled “Voting Hamara Adhikar.” The performers, Anmol Sharma, Jyoti Morya, Anurag, and Himanshi, received high praise from the slum residents for their excellent presentation.
NSS Program Officer Dr. Anil Kumar Pandey, under the guidance of health worker Naveen and Asha worker Arun Bala, led NSS volunteers to the slums beneath the Ghagghar bridge in Sector-32. There, they educated slum dwellers about polio vaccines and overall health, assisting in administering polio drops.
The volunteers urged slum residents to provide polio drops to children under five years of age during the Health Department’s Polio Day campaign from March 3 to 5. Gathering all eligible children in one place, volunteers, with the help of the health workers, administered polio drops and presented them with gifts.
