In a reversal of its earlier directive, the state government has granted permission to private aided schools to maintain their teaching and non-teaching staff’s salary accounts with Union Bank of India (UBI), rescinding the earlier order to shift them to Mumbai District Central Co-operative Bank (MDCCB). The move comes after protests from the education community and references to a Bombay High Court order from October 8, 2020, which invalidated a previous government directive in June 2017 to transfer salaries to MDCCB. The latest government resolution clarifies that teachers can continue using existing nationalized banks for salary transactions.
