Google has introduced a new feature aimed at improving user control and transparency by allowing users to view search results without personalization, reported The Verge.

This feature, accessible in some cases at the bottom of the search results page, gives users the option to explore web content unaffected by personalized search algorithms. Users can click on a link labelled “Try without personalization” to view unfiltered search results.

According to The Verge, once this link is clicked, Google generates a fresh page of results that are not influenced by the user’s search history, preferences, or prior interactions.

However, not all users may encounter this link with every search. In some cases, a message may appear on the results page indicating that “Results are not personalized,” depending on the individual’s settings or search patterns.

Google spokesperson Ned Adriance, in a statement to The Verge, highlighted the benefits of this update, stating, “This change makes it easier for people to get an accurate understanding of whether their results have been personalized, while also providing them with the opportunity to explore non-personalized results.”

He added, “We also make it easy for people to adjust their personalization settings at any time.”

Previously, users could access non-personalized results by appending a specific parameter (“&pws=0”) to the end of a search URL or by modifying their Google account settings. The new feature simplifies this process, offering a direct and user-friendly option on the search results page.

It’s worth noting that the “Try without personalization” feature is a temporary setting. As per The Verge, if users choose to view non-personalized results, their account settings remain unchanged. Personalized results will still appear in future searches unless users actively adjust their personalization preferences in their account.
