On 10th Day India started with splendid medals count. Indian athletes on Sunday clinched total nine medals that pushed India to a respectable fifth on medal tally. The began with three Gold Medals in boxing and one in triple jump with silver in table tennis. The Indian Women’s team are chasing 162 runs against Australia for Gold Medal finish.
The day clearly belonged to Indian triple jumpers who at one stage were at all top three positions.
Eldhose Paul led India’s historic first two finish in men’s triple jump at the Commonwealth Games as he won a rare gold medal in track and field events and was followed by fellow Kerala athlete Abdulla Aboobacker on Sunday.
Paul attempted his best jump of 17.03m in his third attempt and Aboobacker was not behind much as he finished at 17.02m, which he secured in his fifth attempt.
In Boxing star pugilist Amit Panghal clinched Gold Medal in men’s over 48kg-51kg (Flyweight) category after beating England’s Kiaran Macdonald who faced a sharp cut on his face, after the bout.
Nikhat Zareen joined the party after waiting in the wings for few years under Mary Koms reign. And destroyed Nnorthen Irland cary MC naul in 48-50 kg Finale Earned Gold.
Elated Nikhat said, “I’m thrilled to have won the GoldMedal for my country. This was my next major competition after World Championships; people expected me to win Gold here as well, so I am very glad.”
Nitu Ghanghas followed the gold path by defeating England’s Demie-Jade Resztan in Women’s 45kg-48kg final to win India’s 14th gold.
In table tennis the much fancied Indian pair of Achanta Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan settle for silver after 2-3 (11-8, 8-11, 3-11, 11-7, 411) loss to England’s Paul Drinhall and Liam Pitchford in the men’s doubles TT.
With this India has won 49 medals with 17 Gold, 13 Silver & 19 bronze (with women’s cricket finals still on).
