Goa Police arrests 2 more persons including restaurant owner in Sonali Phogat's death case

Goa Police on Saturday arrested two more people in connection with the murder of Tik Tok star and BJP leader Sonali Phogat.

Police said they have arrested Edwin Nunes owner of Curlies Beach restaurant in Anjuna and a suspected drug smuggler Dattaprasad Gaonkar. So far, a total of four arrests have been made in this case.

Meanwhile, Gaonkar had allegedly supplied drugs to Sukhwinder Singh. “Based on the investigation, the police detained the drug peddler who had supplied drugs,” Anjun Police said.

Earlier, on Friday, Sonali Phogat’s PA Sudhir Sangwan and his aide Sukhwinder Singh were arrested in connection with the alleged murder.

“Statements of more than 20-25 people have been recorded so far in the case. These include the staff of Curlies Restaurant and others. The owner of the restaurant is being questioned by the police,” police officials said.

Moreover, Phogat passed away on 23 August in Goa. At the St Anthony Hospital at Anjuna in North, Goa Phogat was declared dead.

The police arrested Phogat’s PA and his associate after watching the CCTV footage. In which all three were seen partying in a club.

“On the basis of CCTV footage, it was seen that the accused Sudhir Sangwan, and his associate Sukhwinder Singh were partying with the deceased at a club. A video establishes that one of them forcefully made the victim consume a substance,” Inspector General of Police Omvir Singh Bishnoi said.

“When confronted, Sukhwinder and Sudhir confessed that they intentionally mixed an obnoxious chemical into a liquid and made the victim drink it,” IGP Omvir Singh Bishnoi said.

“The two accused confessed that after they intentionally mixed an obnoxious chemical into a liquid and made the victim drink it, which made her feel uneasy, after which they took her to the hotel and then to St. Anthony’s Hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” the Goa police said.

Earlier on 26 August, Phogat was cremated in Hisar, Haryana which is her hometown.

“We are satisfied with how the investigation into the murder of my sister has progressed. The CCTV footage has revealed the truth. We cremated my sister today, will look into the further process to get her justice now,” Phogat’s brother Rinku Dhaka said.

However, Sonali Phogat contested against Kuldeep Bishnoi from Adampur in Haryana during the Lok Sabha elections in the year 2019. The popularity of Phogat increased after becoming a Tik-Tok star and a contestant on Bigg Boss.
