Microsoft announced a global outage affecting its online services on Friday, including in India. Users of Microsoft Windows reported encountering ‘Blue Screen of Death’ errors and many took to social media to discuss the problem.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike also experienced a significant outage, impacting businesses worldwide due to a problem with a recent update. The company is now working to reverse this update globally.

Reports indicate that Windows users are facing issues with their computers getting stuck in a restart loop, displaying blue screen errors. Major U.S. airlines like Delta, United, and American Airlines have grounded flights, as has Berlin Airport. Additionally, the London Stock Exchange is dealing with “technical glitches,” according to Bloomberg.

In India, SpiceJet reported technical difficulties with its service provider, affecting online booking, check-in, and other services. IndiGo also noted that its systems are impacted by the Microsoft outage, which may affect booking, check-in, and boarding processes.

Downdetector’s heatmap showed widespread issues across India. The National Cyber Security Coordinator of Australia mentioned a large-scale outage affecting several companies due to a third-party software issue.

Microsoft, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, is investigating the problem impacting access to its apps and services, including Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 admin center, and others. They stated on their support website, “We’re investigating an issue affecting access to multiple Microsoft 365 services and working to identify the full impact.”

Low-cost U.S. carriers like Frontier Airlines, Allegiant, and SunCountry also reported disruptions. Allegiant’s website is down, and SunCountry’s booking and check-in services are temporarily unavailable due to the outage.

Microsoft’s status report noted that the outage began around 6 p.m. ET and is affecting service management and connectivity in the Central U.S. region. The company is working to resolve the issue and improve service availability.
