Theatrical Releases This Week (8-14th September): Prepare for another weekend at the cinema with this fresh set of upcoming movie releases this week. From the big-budget Japanese anime movie causing a roar at the global box office to an Indian movie completely shot on film, the audience has the opportunity to experience both on the same Friday. Let’s have a closer look at what this Friday has in store for you.

Upcoming Theatrical Releases This Week (12th September 2025)

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Movie

First on the list is the highly anticipated Demon Slayer movie, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. Part of a trilogy that will cover the complete Infinity Castle Arc, this part one of three promises the audience breathtaking action sequences paired with mind fights, all while maintaining its signature animation style and quality. The movie was released in Japan to a positive reception, followed by other select countries, with low turnover ratios. 

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Movie is slated for release in India on 12th September 2025.

Ek Chatur Naar

Taking a detour from the big-budget animation and coming to a more grounded cinema, the next movie in theatres this week is Ek Chatur Naar. Directed by Umesh Shukla (OMG – Oh My God!), the movie stars DivyaKhoslaa and Neil Nitin Mukesh in the lead roles. It is the story of how a small-town girl who takes advantage of her naïve looks gets involved in a battle of wits against Niel Nitin Mukesh’s character. 

Ek Chatur Naar is slated for release on 12th September 2025.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale

The third instalment in the Downton Abbey film series, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, follows Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery) as she goes through her divorce, only for her family to end up in financial trouble. The film, adapted from the popular British TV series directed by Simon Curtis and stars Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, and Michelle Dockery.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is scheduled to hit theatres on 12th September 2025.

Mirai

Karthik Gattamneni is also bringing the party to the theatres this week with Mirai. Starring Teja Sajja in the lead role, with Manchu Manoj Kumar playing the antagonist. The movie is a fantasy action movie that follows Sajja’s character as he is faced with his destiny to protect Emperor Ashoka’s nine sacred scriptures from the grips of evil. It follows his journey as he navigates his way around his newfound goal and everything that comes with it.

Jugnuma

Also greeting film fans this Friday is the Raam Reddy film Jugnuma starring Manoj Bajpayee. Set in the 1980s Himalayas, the film follows Bajpayee’s character, an Orchard owner, as he faces the mystery of his trees burning overnight. The story develops as Manoj’s character goes from a person content with life to a man consumed by negativity. The movie premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and also became the first to win the Best Film award at Constellation Features Competition.

Jugnuma is scheduled for release on 12th September 2025.

Kaantha

Kaantha is a 1950s period drama directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role. It also features P. Samuthirakani, Bhagyashri Borse in prominent roles. The film follows Chandran (Dulquer Salmaan), a popular actor in the Tamil film industry who takes creative control of a film called Shaanta from a legendary director and his mentor, Ayya (Samuthirakani). The story moves forward as their relationship goes into a downward spiral, leading to chaos and a lot of drama.

Kaantha is scheduled for a theatrical release on 12th September 2025.

Which Movies to Watch in Theatres this Weekend?

For anyone looking to visit theatres this week for a fresh release, all of the above-mentioned movies will make for a great choice. From Demon Slayer’s fast-paced action to Kaantha’s dramatic storytelling, fans of action and drama have their bases covered. Teja Sajja’s Mirai also promises fans a great fantasy action watch, with Raam Reddy coming to save the day, and his realistic storytelling with Jugnuma.
