Shamita Shetty made her debut in 2000 with Mohabbatein, a romantic drama made by a leading production house. Her entry won acclaim and saw her receive a coveted award for Best Female Debut. But then came a much more convoluted and uphill journey.
Though promising debut getting a mention alongside prominent Bollywood stars the momentum fizzled out. Mimi Shetty disclosed that after her debut, she was left on the sidelines. Offers dried up, and she struggled to stay in the limelight for years.
Compounding the challenge, Shamita worked on four movies after her debut that never made it into theaters. She named projects with actors Sanjay Dutt and one with Madhavan among them. They didn't get released, which cut deeply into her career's advancement. But she refused to let regret hold her back instead opting for gratitude and moving forward.
In the business, Shamita earned a reputation for being slow to choose projects, as opposed to pursuing the limelight. She confesses that being selective took away from her exposure but respecting her artistic principles was more important. In her words, she earned every audition, not inherited it, and she desired work that appealed to her.
