
Kaantha Trailer Out Now: Dulquer Salmaan Portrays an Arrogant Actor Fighting for Creative Control From his Mentor!
The trailer for Dulquer Salmaan's next theatrical release, Kaantha, is out now. The trailer comes after a short delay in the movie's initially planned release date of September 12 due to Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra's release.
Dulquer Salmaan's 1950s period drama was released today. Set in 1950s Madras, the movie is the story of how a student outshines his master and all the complications that arise from it. The movie's trailer features Salmaan in the lead role as a superstar actor, with Samuthirakani playing the role of his mentor.
Kaantha is the story of T K Mahadevan, the "King of Acting", who has outshined his master Ayya. It centres around his ego clashes with his former mentor, wherein he slowly takes creative control, leading to an intense back-and-forth.
The trailer showcases T K Mahadevan (Dulqueer Salman) learning under Aaya (Samuthirakani) before becoming a household name. It shows how his former mentor feels outshined by his student, and how he feels that Mahadevan is consumed by the money and fame.
Throughout the trailer, Aaya and Mahadevan are shown to be at odds with each other, with one constantly trying to assert their dominance over the other. Their fight for creative control is worsened by the entry of Rana Daggubati, who portrays the role of a police officer investigating an accident that took place on the set.
It also attracts attention to the budding relationship of Mahadevan and his co-star Kumari (Bhagyashri Borse) while shooting for their film. The trailer cuts between coloured and black and white shots to create a fitting image of the movie's time period.

Kaantha is directed by Selvamani Selvaraj under the Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films banners. The movie is slated for a theatrical release on November 14th and will be available in Tamil and Telugu. It comes months after the box office success of Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, which was also produced under Salmaan's Wayfarer Films.
