Controversy Over Cultural Elements

Despite its broad success, K-Pop Demon Hunters has been a subject of discussion. Certain groups of Chinese audiences criticized the film for claims of cultural appropriation and plagiarism, focusing on aspects such as traditional knot design, medicinal herbs, tiger motifs, and architectural styles. On one of the famous platforms, Douban, viewers have expressed their concern regarding the blending of Chinese cultural elements within a Korean context.

Looking ahead, both Sony and Netflix are reportedly planning subsequent chapters, co-director Maggie Kang noted that the initial film primarily focused on Rumi's story; numerous narrative threads concerning characters Zoey and Mira remain underdeveloped due to the constraints of an 85-minute runtime. Kang expressed interest in expanding these storylines in future installments, indicating a strategic approach to franchise development that balances audience engagement with narrative depth.
