Idli Kadai Box Office Collection Day 1: Dhanush Film Opens Strong, Earns ₹10.50 Cr Ahead of Kantara Chapter 1 Release
Idli Kadai Box Office Collection Day 1: The highly anticipated Tamil action family drama, Idli Kadai, starring Dhanush and Nithya Menen, made a significant splash at the box office on its opening day, October 1. Despite receiving mixed responses from both the audience and critics, the film demonstrated its commercial appeal, opening with decent numbers and positioning itself as a strong contender in the current movie landscape.
According to industry tracking reports from Sacnilk, the film officially earned a robust ₹10.50 crore on Day 1. These opening figures put the movie on a good pace for its first weekend, showing audience excitement for the drama. The Dhanush starrer was reportedly made on a budget of ₹60 crore.
Idli Kadai recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of 48.34 per cent on release day. The demand for the film showed a clear upward trend throughout the day, peaking in the late hours. Occupancy opened at 25.82 per cent during the morning shows, rose to 47.71 per cent in the afternoon, and climbed further to 50.51 per cent in the evening shows. The film closed its first day with an impressive high, logging 69.33 per cent occupancy in the night shows. The next big challenge for the Dhanush movie is to maintain its box office performance in the face of another big release, Kantara: Chapter 1.

Idli Kadai's story centres on Murugan, played by Dhanush. Murugan leaves his village, Sangarapuram in the Theni district, and his father Sivanesan’s (Rajkiran) humble yet iconic idli eatery to pursue his dream of becoming a renowned chef. He finds success working for the multi-millionaire Vishnuvardhan (Sathyaraj) in Bangkok and is set to marry Vishnuvardhan’s daughter, Meera (Shalini Pandey). However, the news of his father’s death forces him to return to his village after many years, where he discovers that both his father’s legacy and Vishnuvardhan’s reputation are at stake. Vishnu sends his son, Ashwin (Arun Vijay), to make Murugan return to Bangkok.
Dhanush's brainchild, Idli Kadai, also features Nithya Menen as Kayal, R. Parthiban as Inspector R. Arivu, P. Samuthirakani as Marisamy, and Geetha Kailasam as Kasturi. The movie serves as a creative showcase for Dhanush, who not only stars as the lead but also wrote and directed the film. Aakash Baskaran and Dhanush have backed it. With a strong opening, the coming days will be crucial to determine if Idli Kadai can sustain its performance and turn its box office start into long-term commercial success.
Idli Kadai is made on a reported budget of ₹60 crore. It features Dhanush as the writer, director and lead actor.
Idli Kadai released on October 1. The movie will face competition from Rishab Shetty's Kantara: Chapter 1 and Varun Dhawan's starrer Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.
