
Ed Sheeran admitted his £200,000 Aston Martin DB9 became his “worst purchase” after a roadside mishap led to regret.
Global music sensation Ed Sheeran, best known for hits like Shape of You and Bad Habits, recently admitted that buying an Aston Martin DB9 turned into the “worst decision” of his life. The singer, who once thought the £200,000 luxury car would be a milestone purchase, revealed how a single mistake left him regretting the buy forever. Sheeran opened up about the incident on Barry Keoghan’s YouTube show GOAT Talk, where he recalled how excitement quickly turned into disappointment.
Ed Sheeran described how he bought the Aston Martin DB9 with pride and the luxury grand tourer symbolised elegance, performance, and British craftsmanship. Yet, his excitement faded during a routine drive back from his studio. The Galway Girl singer shared that he was heading home on a narrow country lane when he spotted a large puddle on the road. Believing it harmless, he decided to drive through it slowly.

Sheeran explained that the car broke down the moment he tried to move past the puddle. He attempted to restart the engine several times but failed. Things worsened when he opened the car door and water rushed inside while realising the situation, he abandoned the car by the roadside, convinced it could not be saved.
The singer revealed that leaving the car unattended cost him dearly. Someone eventually picked it up, and he never saw it again. Calling it the “worst purchase” of his career, Sheeran admitted that the thrill of buying the vehicle ended in disappointment.
Although Sheeran did not share exact details of his car, the Aston Martin DB9 remains an iconic model and produced between 2004 and 2016, the DB9 combined speed and elegance in true grand tourer style. It featured a 5.9-liter V12 engine capable of delivering 470–540 horsepower as renowned for its power and craftsmanship, the model was eventually succeeded by the DB11 in 2016.
