However, in a recently shared report, it was revealed that Activision, the company behind the Call of Duty franchise of games, has refused the director the opportunity to make a Call of Duty movie. According to Matthew Belloni, the deal did not come to fruition due to Spielberg’s famous “Spielberg Deal.”
What is The “Spielberg Deal”?
Steven Spielberg is famous for creating memorable movies that leave the audience in awe of his command over the camera and his ability to tell amazing stories with it. However, he is also famous for not allowing other people to have creative control over his projects. His reluctance to give up creative control has given birth to what has come to be known as the “Spielberg Deal.”
Under this deal, the producers of the movie hand the globally renowned director a cheque and agree to allow him to have complete creative control, along with the right to decide the final cut of the movie. Although the Saving Private Ryan director has a resume that speaks for itself, Activision was not so quick to give away complete control.

Who is Directing the Call of Duty Movie?
After Spielberg and Universal were denied the opportunity to direct the Call of Duty movie, Activision decided to go with Paramount Pictures. Although the director has not been locked, the studio will likely agree to Activision’s demand for more creative involvement in the production.
