A wave of excitement for fans this week about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce marrying was just a false alarm. Rumors of an engagement started after eagle-eyed fans noticed a photo taken on the Kansas City Chiefs star’s iPhone lock screen featuring the pop star wearing a ring.
The photo, which was seen in a recent Instagram post by Kelce, caused fans to go into a frenzy. One of them asked, “Did Travis propose?” while another asked, “Are they engaged?” The subject photo had Swift posing with one of Kelce’s Super Bowl rings.
But TMZ broke the news last Friday that the couple isn’t engaged. Insiders close to Kelce made it clear that the ring in the picture was actually one of his Super Bowl rings Swift had put on.
The lock screen picture was one of a 13-picture carousel posted by Kelce, a count meaningful to Swift, who regards 13 as her lucky number. The sequence of photos featured the couple spending time on a boat, in the snow, ice skating on a rink, and visiting a grotto. But the lock screen picture was what raised eyebrows.
One fan posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Is Taylor Swift engaged to Travis Kelce? Fans are swooning over Travis’ lockscreen????????” Another shared, “Travis Kelce’s phone wallpaper being a picture of him and Taylor I’m in shambles.”
This is the first time Kelce has posted pictures with Taylor Swift on his Instagram, even though the relationship went public in September of 2023. One of their earliest viral moments was a picture of them holding hands at a Saturday Night Live after-party in October.
Since then, Swift has been a regular game-day attendee at Kelce’s games, including an emotional visit when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in 2024.
The couple has also been seen out together in less formal environments. They were spotted on a dinner date last month in New York, with Swift grasping Kelce’s hand while walking through the city in advance of the upcoming NFL season.
As per sources quoted by PEOPLE, Swift is keen on supporting Kelce in the new season. “Not only because she cares about rooting for Travis, but because for the first full season since they began dating, she’s not dealing with a busy touring schedule,” the source revealed.
