Actress and TV star Sofía Vergara has revealed she recently went through her second knee surgery. On Friday, the Modern Family star, 53, posted two pictures on Instagram—one of her in a hospital bed and another of her leg covered in a thick knee brace with a visible bandage.
Vergara confirmed the surgery by writing in her caption, “It’s done! Round 2,” followed by red heart emojis, a prayer emoji, and the hashtag #knee.
Second Procedure in Just Over a Year
She didn’t give more details about the medical reason for this surgery. However, this operation comes just a year after her first knee surgery, which she had spoken about in April 2024. At that time, Vergara had publicly thanked her then-boyfriend Justin Saliman, an orthopedic surgeon, for being supportive during her recovery.
She had written playfully in her Instagram Story back then, “If u ever get a [major] knee surgery make sure u Get a handsome doctor who will sleep with u that night… ! Luv u,” posting a photo of Saliman in scrubs.
Support from Ex-Boyfriend and America’s Got Talent Co-Star
Though the couple broke up in January 2025 after dating for more than a year, Saliman had played an important role in her healing process, both emotionally and physically.
Vergara also received support from her colleagues. After the latest surgery, she shared a fun gift from America’s Got Talent co-judge Howie Mandel—a gadget that looked like an electric pogo stick, poking fun at her limited mobility.

Sofía Vergara has always been candid about her health. In 2022, she opened up about being diagnosed with thyroid cancer when she was just 28 years old. The discovery happened during a routine doctor’s visit.
She wrote, “At 28, ‘Cancer’ was not a word I expected to hear,” adding, “But the doctors found a lump in my throat, and that word became part of my story.”
Despite her recent health struggles, Vergara continues to show resilience and humour, keeping her fans updated and inspired.
