Legendary Russian Composer Rodion Shchedrin Dies at 92

Rodion Shchedrin, acclaimed Russian composer of ballets like Anna Karenina and Carmen Suite, has died at 92. The Bolshoi Theater mourned his 'priceless creative legacy', calling his death an 'irreparable loss' for global art.

Acclaimed Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin, who is well-known for his ballets 'Anna Karenina' and the 'Carmen Suite' has taken his last breath in Germany at the age of 92, Moscow's Bolshoi Theater announced on Friday.

Shchedrin and his wife, legendary ballerina Maya Plisetskaya together shaped Soviet and Russian cultural life for years. Plisetskaya passed away in 2015. 

The Bolshoi Theater asserted that the demise of Shchedrin is an irreplaceable loss for the artistic world. They praised him caling his work 'priceless creative legacy'.

Shchedrin was born in Moscow in 1932 in a family of musicians. he studied at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. In 1958, he married Plisetskaya and composed many ballets for her, such as 'the Seagull', 'The Lady with the Dog', and 'Anna Karenina', which was first performed in 1972 and continues lead theatres worldwide.

He was a true star that has now fallen.
