Actress Eva Longoria is gearing up for her next big-screen appearance in “The Pickup,” a fast-paced action-comedy premiering on Prime Video on August 6. The movie boasts an impressive cast including Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, and Keke Palmer, and is directed by Tim Story, best known for films like Ride Along and Barbershop. The script has been written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider.
Plot: A Heist Gone Haywire
The film follows Russell, played by Eddie Murphy, a seasoned armored truck driver whose ordinary workday takes a chaotic turn when a criminal gang led by Zoe (played by Keke Palmer) ambushes his truck. Pete Davidson plays Travis, Russell’s partner, while Eva Longoria portrays Russell’s wife, who unexpectedly gets pulled into the madness.
Longoria Talks About Her Character
In a recent interview, Longoria shared that her character plays an important and active role in the story. She said, “What I loved about the script and what I love about this film too is that I play Eddie’s wife, but I end up going along for the ride. I end up part of the adventure. And through a series of circumstances, I end up in trouble with them and I’m probably the most sane person in the situation.”
Longoria also revealed that her character doesn’t just tag along, but actually plays a key part in the outcome. “I save the day at the end. I think it’s really fun when you’re not just the wife of or the girlfriend in a film, when you play a vital part in the adventure,” she explained.
Off-Camera Moments with Eddie Murphy
Although the film promises high-speed chases and comic chaos, Longoria admitted that some of her favorite memories came from time spent off-set with Eddie Murphy. She recalled, “My favourite moments with Eddie were off-screen, just sitting around between takes while I totally fangirled. I’d bring up every movie he’s ever done. I’m pretty sure he got tired of me asking questions, but I couldn’t help it!”
She also described how respected Murphy is on set. “He’s got such an incredible legacy. You feel everybody kind of have that respect and admiration for a man who’s done so much and so well,” she said, noting the admiration that surrounds the legendary comedian and actor.
Longoria Also Appears in ‘War of the Worlds’
Apart from The Pickup, Eva Longoria was recently seen in “War of the Worlds,” which released on July 30. Directed by Rich Lee, the film reimagines the classic 1898 sci-fi tale by H.G. Wells, focusing on a modern-day alien invasion. In this version, Longoria stars alongside Ice Cube, blending action and suspense in a high-stakes survival story.
