Comedy World Mourns Reggie Carroll, Killed in Mississippi Shooting

Baltimore comedian Reginald “Reggie” Carroll, 52, was shot dead in Southaven, Mississippi, leaving the comedy world mourning his loss.

Veteran comedian Reginald “Reggie” Carroll, a well-known name in Baltimore’s comedy circuit, has passed away after being shot in Southaven, Mississippi. He was 52.

The Incident

Police reported that officers responded to gunfire in the Burton Lane area on Wednesday. Carroll was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was quickly taken to Regional One Health in Memphis. Despite doctors’ efforts, he could not be saved.

The Southaven Police Department confirmed that a suspect has been arrested and charged with murder. Authorities called it an “isolated incident,” though investigations are still ongoing.

Tributes From the Comedy World

Carroll’s sudden death has left Baltimore’s comedy community grieving. Mobtown Comedy Club, which he supported in its early years, shared an emotional tribute, “Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on. The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family.”

Academy Award-winning actress and comedian Mo’Nique, who considered Carroll her “brother in comedy,” also remembered him warmly. In an Instagram Story, she wrote, “This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again, and the last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together,” she said with laughter. “That’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time, so I have no sad tears because all of our times together was amazing.”

His Career

Carroll enjoyed a wide-ranging career on stage and screen. He toured across the country, often performing with major acts, including Mo’Nique. In 2000, he appeared on Showtime at the Apollo, filmed at the iconic Apollo Theater in Harlem. He later featured in the UPN sitcom The Parkers with Mo’Nique and Countess Vaughn.

More recently, Carroll starred in the 2022 television film Rent & Go and served as producer for the 2023 comedy showcase Knockout Kings of Comedy.
