Actor-turned-activist and former beauty queen Tanushree Dutta, a top voice in Bollywood’s #MeToo moment, has again raised serious alarm about her safety and mental health. On Tuesday, in an anguished video posted on Instagram, Tanushree is heard crying and appealing for help, alleging she has been harassed in her own house for the past 4–5 years.
In the video, the star of Aashiq Banaya Aapne confesses that she was forced to call the police because of this harassment.
“Guys, I’m being harassed in my own home. I just called the cops. I got worried and called the police. The police came. They asked me to come to the police station to launch a proper complaint. I’m probably going tomorrow or the day after. I’m not well. I’ve been harassed so much in the last 4-5 years that my health has deteriorated.”
She further told that her daily life has become hand-to-mouth and expressed that she is not even able to employ domestic staff because of frightening experiences.
“I’m not able to do any work. My house is a mess. I can’t hire even maids because they planted maids in my house. I had such a bad experience with maids coming in and stealing and doing all kinds of things. I have to do all my work. People come outside my door… I’m being troubled in my own house.”
“Please, someone help me,” she begs in the heartbreaking video.
Harassment Details Disclosed in Story Post
On an Instagram Story, Tanushree shared more grim details.
“Loud noises like this and other very very loud banging noises at all odd hours for the last couple of years!! I got tired of complaning to the building management and gave up. Today this was going on all day, I was so unwell and couldn’t even rest. Then some random people came to my door and started ringing bell despite giving instruction of Do Not Disturb!!“
A Long Fight Since #MeToo in 2018
Tanushree had originally accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment on the set of a song in the 2009 film Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss. Her 2018 revelations revivified the #MeToo movement in India. Although she lodged complaints against Patekar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, producer Samee Siddiqui, and director Rakesh Sarang, police later cleared the accused on the grounds of insufficient evidence and hinting that her complaint could be “malicious” or “out of revenge.”
Her actress sister Ishita Dutta had once talked to IANS about the ordeal.
“Unless the police had arrived at that moment, things would have deteriorated,” she was quoted saying, referring to the 2008 incident when Tanushree’s car was mobbed.
Ongoing Plea for Justice
In the caption of her latest video, Tanushree wrote, “I’m sick and tired of this harassment!! It’s been going on since 2018 #metoo. Aaj fed up hokar maine police ko call kiya. Please someone help me! Do something before it’s too late.”
The video has generated alarm over social media, with fans and activists calling on authorities to take decisive action to secure her safety and pursue her claims in earnest.
