Bollywood actor Salman Khan visited the Mumbai residence of his longtime bodyguard, Shera, on Thursday to offer condolences after the death of Shera’s father, Sunder Singh Jolly. The 88-year-old passed away earlier in the day after battling cancer.
Salman Offers Emotional Support
The cremation took place at Oshiwara Crematorium in Jogeshwari West. Later, Salman arrived at Shera’s home with heavy security. Videos on social media captured the actor stepping out of his car, embracing Shera at the entrance, and heading inside to pay his respects. He was later seen leaving the residence.
Shera Announces Father’s Passing
Shera, whose real name is Gurmeet Singh Jolly, shared the news on social media. “My father Shri Sunder Singh Jolly has left for heavenly abode today,” he wrote, informing friends and followers about the loss.
Shera’s Career in Security
Shera has been working as Salman Khan’s personal bodyguard and head of security since 1995, ensuring the actor’s safety during public appearances, film shoots, and overseas trips. Known for his towering presence and keen alertness, Shera has earned a reputation as one of the most trusted security professionals in the industry.
Beyond his role with Salman, Shera owns Tiger Security, a private security firm that caters to high-profile clients from both Bollywood and the international entertainment circuit. Over the years, his company has managed protection for several celebrities, most notably handling global pop sensation Justin Bieber’s security during his 2017 Mumbai concert. Tiger Security’s portfolio also includes work for visiting international dignitaries and artists, further cementing Shera’s standing as a top-tier security provider in India.
From Bodybuilder to Security Professional
Before stepping into the security industry in the early 1990s, Shera dedicated himself to bodybuilding. His passion for fitness and strength training earned him the Mumbai Junior title in 1987 and the runner-up position in Mr Maharashtra Junior in 1988. Known for his towering physique and disciplined lifestyle, Shera quickly gained recognition in the bodybuilding circuit.
However, as opportunities in the fitness industry were limited at the time, he decided to channel his physical prowess and discipline into the security field. His entry into personal security work marked the beginning of a new chapter — one that would eventually bring him into the inner circle of Bollywood’s biggest superstar, Salman Khan.
A Bond Beyond Duty
When Shera began working as Salman Khan’s personal bodyguard in 1995, neither could have predicted that their professional arrangement would evolve into a deep friendship. Over nearly three decades, Shera has been a constant presence by Salman’s side, accompanying him to shoots, events, and even international tours. Salman, in turn, has often referred to Shera as “family” and credited him for his unwavering loyalty. Their relationship stands as a rare example in the entertainment industry, where trust and long-term associations are hard to maintain.
