Bollywood fans have been waiting eagerly for Jee Le Zaraa, the ambitious female road trip film that was to bring together Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif for the first time. Four years after its grand announcement, the film’s future had become uncertain. Now, director Farhan Akhtar has clarified that while the project is not shelved, it has been put “on the back burner,” leaving audiences hopeful yet unsure about when and how the movie will finally come to life.
Silence Around the Film Raised Questions
Since the big reveal, very little news had emerged about the project. The long silence left many fans wondering if the movie had been cancelled. Speculation grew stronger over the years, with doubts about whether the star cast and concept would ever reach the big screen.
Farhan Akhtar Breaks His Silence
In a recent interview with YouTube channel Our Stupid Reactions, director Farhan Akhtar finally addressed the questions. He clarified that the project is not cancelled. “I would hate to say that it’s shelved. What I will say is that it has been put on the back burner. It is a film that will happen. Again, I don’t know when it will be. But it’s too delicious a script and there’s so much work that has already been done on it,” he said.
Doubts Over the Original Cast
Farhan also hinted that the film might not feature the same trio of Priyanka, Alia, and Katrina. He revealed that much of the pre-production work is complete, including location scouting and music recording. However, he added, “I can’t comment on the cast anymore, like what that will be and when that will land. But will the film happen? The film will happen.”
The Journey of Jee Le Zaraa
Farhan first announced Jee Le Zaraa in 2021, marking the 20th anniversary of his debut film Dil Chahta Hai. At that time, Priyanka Chopra shared on social media how the collaboration came together. She wrote that she, Katrina, and Alia had met in February 2020 to discuss the project and all three felt Farhan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti were the perfect team. “It just so happened that Farhan was working on a female road trip movie at the same time! Talk about all the stars aligning!!” Priyanka had said.
Mixed Feelings for Fans
With the project now delayed and the original cast uncertain, fans are left disappointed. The excitement of seeing Priyanka, Alia, and Katrina together might not turn into reality. Still, Farhan’s assurance that the movie will happen someday keeps hope alive.
