Veteran actor Indira Krishnan, who has appeared in films like Tere Naam and Holiday, recently shared her experience of working on the 2023 hit film Animal, where she played Rashmika Mandanna’s mother. While Indira gained major recognition through television shows such as Krishnaben Khakhrawala, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, and Waaris, her role in Animal gave her the opportunity to work alongside major stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. During an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Indira opened up about Rashmika’s efforts to perform well despite a language barrier and praised her co-stars.
“Rashmika Is Genuine and Sweet,” Says Indira
Indira called both Ranbir and Rashmika “very lovely” while saying she would give Ranbir “full points” for his conduct on set. She mentioned that although she had limited interaction with him during Animal, they bonded more during Ramayana. She described Rashmika as “very sweet, very down-to-earth, and truly genuine,” adding that “who she is can be clearly seen on her face.”
She Faced Language Hurdles But Stayed Positive
Talking about the on-set environment, Indira said she and Ranbir often discussed topics like the “universe and manifestation,” and she was glad that Rashmika “actively took part in those conversations too.” She admired Rashmika’s eagerness to grow, saying, “She’s a very positive girl and wants to learn a lot.” According to Indira, Rashmika “sometimes struggled with Hindi during Animal,” but she noted that the actress “did it very beautifully.”
About the Film: Animal’s Success Despite Criticism
Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who earlier made Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy, Animal stars Ranbir Kapoor in a dark, intense role. The movie explores the troubled bond between a father and his son, set in a world of emotional pain and brutal violence. Anil Kapoor plays the emotionally distant father, while Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri play strong supporting characters.
Despite receiving backlash for its portrayal of violence and toxic masculinity, Animal became a major hit, grossing over ₹900 crore globally. The makers have confirmed a sequel titled Animal Park, which will again star Ranbir. Filming for the sequel has not yet started.
Indira’s Next: Mythological Epic Ramayana
Indira Krishnan is also part of the upcoming film Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Produced by Namit Malhotra, the epic will release in two parts one on Diwali 2026 and the other on Diwali 2027.
