
Neha Dhupia pregnancy before marriage sparked criticism, but she now speaks about trolling and her initiative Freedom to Feed
Neha Dhupia’s wedding to actor Angad Bedi in 2018 surprised fans and later the couple announced their marriage suddenly and hosted an intimate ceremony. They never spoke publicly about dating before the wedding. A few months later, Neha and Angad welcomed their daughter, Mehr. Soon after, online chatter began. Critics accused Neha of being pregnant before marriage. The trolling grew louder, and many judged her for the timeline of her pregnancy. Today, she addresses those remarks, reveals how she handled the backlash, and explains how it inspired her to start her initiative, Freedom to Feed.
Neha recalls how her marriage became a target for gossip. She explained that she married Angad and six months later welcomed their daughter. However, the biggest conversation centered not on her happiness, but on people asking, “How did the baby come in six months? Ye ho kaise gaya?” The actor shared that remarks of this nature continue to reach her even now. Despite the harsh criticism, she has learned to take them lightly.

Neha also spoke about how such remarks target female actors regularly. She noted that even today, stories emerge when actresses get pregnant before marriage. Neha said she feels she is now in the same list as Neena Gupta and Alia Bhatt. She called the chatter “ridiculous” but admitted that it does not bother her anymore.
Neena Gupta raised her daughter Masaba with cricketer Vivian Richards. Alia Bhatt began dating Ranbir Kapoor in 2018, married him in April 2022, and welcomed their daughter Raha in November the same year also these examples highlight how women in the public eye often face judgment when they break societal expectations.
Neha revealed that the backlash against her pushed her to launch her initiative Freedom to Feed and through this project, she focuses on pregnancy, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery. She believes that women’s health should not remain taboo. Instead, these conversations should be normalised.

Neha said her goal was to spread awareness, break myths, and remind women that they are not alone. She strongly believes such subjects must not be swept under the rug and even if trolls criticise her for speaking on these issues, she will not stop. For her, talking about pregnancy and recovery is part of standing up for half the population.
