With its impressive second-weekend showing, Ashwin Kumar's mythical animation extravaganza Mahavatar Narsimha is making box office history. The film has broken long-standing misconceptions about the limited reach of animation in Indian cinema and defied industry expectations despite being a completely animated feature.

According to early estimates by trade analyst Sacnilk, the film earned an impressive 15 crore net in India on its ninth day (Saturday), bringing its total domestic collection to 67.95 crore. This follows a strong first-week run of 44.75 crore and a 7.7 crore collection on the second Friday. With this momentum, Mahavatar Narsimha is poised to cross the 70 crore milestone, which is an unprecedented achievement for an Indian animated film.

Soaring Theatre Occupancy in Telugu Regions

The movie has become quite famous, particularly in areas where Telugu is spoken. Mahavatar Narsimha achieved an incredible 74.08% total occupancy in Telugu on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Peaking at 93.57% occupancy during the night shows after beginning at 46.36% in the morning and increasing to 74.60% in the afternoon, the foot traffic increased steadily throughout the day.

Hindi and Tamil Versions Show Steady Growth

The Hindi version of the film is also having an impact, notably in major cities and northern territories. Saturday witnessed an overall Hindi occupancy rate of 57.17%, with morning shows opening at 30.37%. This steadily increased to 53.14% in the afternoon, 62.70% in the evening, and 82.47% at night, indicating significant word-of-mouth buzz and family audience interest.

With a solid total occupancy of 66.66% on Saturday, the movie maintained its position in Tamil-speaking areas, such as Tamil Nadu.

The numbers showed a strong multilingual appeal, rising from a modest start of 35.64% in the morning to 68.94% in the afternoon, 77.85% in the evening, and 84.20% at night.

Breaking Barriers for Indian Animation

Mahavatar Narsimha, co-written by Jayapurna Das and Rudra Pratap Ghosh, has received critical acclaim for its great emotional depth, spiritual themes, and exquisite animation. The film's narrative and creative vision have sparked widespread admiration on social media platforms.

Despite being an animated feature, a genre that has historically been ignored in Indian cinema, the film is expanding the boundaries of what is possible in this sector. It is presently one of the most financially successful Indian animated films ever produced.

In addition to enjoying box office success, Mahavatar Narsimha is opening up new options for Indian animation on the big screen as it approaches the 70 crore mark.
