Standing apart from weekly releases, award-winning filmmaker Raam Reddy is bringing a realistic storytelling to the silver screen with Jugnuma. The trailer for the film starring Manoj Bajpayee was shared by the makers on Saturday.
Jugnuma Trailer: Manoj Bajpayee Stars as Orchard Owner
Shot completely on film, Jugnuma (The Fable) is a realist tale set in the 1980s Himalayas. It follows the character of Dev (Manoj Bajpayee), an Orchard owner who is faced with the mystery of trees burning overnight. What happens when he is faced with this mystery, how he deals with it and what all revelations he is faced with in his journey of uncovering this secret is what drives the story forward.
The Jugnuma trailer showcases Bajpayee as a calm man who is satisfied with his life as an orchard owner. Everything seems fine as the plan for spraying pesticides is approved and accepted by the people. Until a fire breaks out one day that sends Dev (Manoj Bajpayee) into a dark spiral as he tries to uncover the mystery behind the incident. Believed to be an arson attack by Dev, this fire starts a journey of exploration for him, with the trailer ending with Dev flying off into the skies with a wingsuit.
Apart from Bajpayee, the film also features Tillotama Shome, Deepak Dobariyal, Priyanka Bose, Awan Pookot and Hiral Sidhu in key roles.

Jugnuma Makes History at Leeds International Film Festival
The Raam Reddy film Jugnuma premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival. From there, the film competed in the Constellation Features Competition at the Leeds International Film Festival 2024, where it came out on top, becoming the first Indian film to win the Best Film award in the competition. Moreover, the Manoj Bajpayee starrer also bagged the Special Jury prize at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
Anurag Kashyap Backs Jugnuma
Film’s executive producer Anurag Kashyap also promoted the film on his social media handles. He shared that the Raam Reddy film has left a positive impression on him and impacted him as a filmmaker.
“Jugnuma is @raamreddy.creates ‘s labour of love and a film that has genuinely impacted me as a filmmaker and an audience and that’s why all of us are supporting the film,. So happy that Vetri, Lijo, Raj & Nag, have come onboard to support the film and here we present the trailer to you…,” Kashyap wrote while sharing the trailer on his Instagram.
The use of film in Jugnuma helps it achieve a dreamy look, helping it stand apart in an age highly dependent on high-tech equipment. With the film already winning multiple awards at film festivals, Indian moviegoers now have an opportunity to experience it on the big screen in September.
Jugnuma will release in theatres on 12th September.
