The Sunjay Kapur inheritance battle has reached the Delhi High Court. His children with Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan, have filed a civil suit seeking their share of his estate worth nearly Rs 30,000 crore also they have accused their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of forging a will to claim complete control over the assets. The case has opened a fresh chapter in one of India’s most high-profile succession disputes, placing family ties, corporate control, and legacy planning under judicial scrutiny.

Children Challenge Stepmother in Court

The plaintiffs, Samaira (20) and Kiaan (14), have approached the court through their mother, Karisma Kapoor, as legal guardian also they demand partition of the estate, detailed accounting of assets, and a permanent injunction against Priya Kapur and other defendants. They allege concealment of crucial information about their father’s holdings while initially, Priya denied the existence of any will, claiming that all assets were under the RK Family Trust and later, she produced a document dated March 21, 2025, describing it as a will. The siblings now allege forgery and manipulation.

Multiple Defendants Named in the Suit

The civil suit lists Priya Kapur, her minor son, Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur, and a woman who identified herself as executor of the disputed will as defendants. The children argue that they are rightful heirs and must receive clarity on the estate’s division and they maintain that their father had assured them of financial security and planned for their inclusion in business matters.

Sunjay Kapur’s Estate and Business Empire

Sunjay Kapur, who died of a heart attack while playing polo in England on June 12, 2025, left behind a vast fortune also he headed Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd. (Sona Comstar), a leading global auto component maker with a market capitalization of around Rs 31,000 crore. His sudden death triggered uncertainty, with the company’s shares falling 7 percent amid succession concerns. According to Forbes, his net worth stood at $1.2 billion (Rs 10,300 crore) at his death, with peak wealth touching $1.6 billion (Rs 14,100 crore). He was the sole beneficiary of the RK Family Trust, which reportedly holds promoter stakes in Sona Comstar through Aureus Investments Pvt Ltd.

What His Children Already Inherited

Reports suggest Sunjay Kapur had already made provisions for Samaira and Kiaan. He gifted them bonds worth Rs 14 crore and secured a monthly income of Rs 10 lakh each. He also transferred ownership of a house, previously held by his father, to Karisma Kapoor and the children recall holidays, business talks, and personal milestones as proof of his intent to secure their future.

Family Rifts Over Succession

The succession dispute has exposed deep divisions within the Kapur family and Rani Kapur, Sunjay’s mother, alleged that she was sidelined in corporate decisions while she wrote to SEBI and shareholders, claiming she was emotionally shattered and coerced into signing papers. She criticized Priya’s swift appointment as a non-executive director of Sona Comstar. The company rejected her claims, clarifying that she had not held shares since 2019 and that all board decisions followed due process.

Marriage and Divorce with Karisma Kapoor

Sunjay Kapur married Karisma Kapoor in 2003. They became parents to Samaira in 2005 and Kiaan in 2011. The couple filed for divorce in 2014, which was finalised in 2016. Despite their separation, Karisma’s children now stand at the center of the inheritance battle that will shape the future of Sunjay’s corporate and personal legacy.
