Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon posted a special note on her social media on the 79th Independence Day. She write a heartfelt message urging ‘freedom for all’, pointing at the recent Supreme Court’s ruling on the removal of all stray dogs from the streets of Delhi-NCR.

She writes, “Freedom for all. #delhincrindies. When the authorities fail, there is always a fall guy. Inefficiency/corruption has led to this disaster.”

The post shows a stray dog holding the Indian national flag. She expressed her disagreement with the court’s order.

She further criticized the government, saying, “If that was a success, or the money and infrastructure were set properly, I don’t think we would have reached this point. Local bodies are responsible for the strays in their communities, and sterilization is the need of the hour.”

Supreme Court’s Ruling

A bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwall and R. Mahadevan ordered the removal of all stray dogs from the capital city and the NCR region within eight weeks. All the dogs are asked to be put in shelters.

Here are the key points from the ruling:

  • After a dog is caught, it must not be released on the streets ever again.
  • Anyone who interferes in the process will be handled strictly and legally.
  • A helpline will be set up to report dog bite incidents.
  • Dogs with reports of biting must be caught within four hours of the complaint.
