“The power of ‘Word of mouth’… It’s a rarity & I shall cherish this moment for life,” posted a grateful Yami Gautam on social media, as her latest film, Haq, continues its steady journey at the box office. The legal drama, co-starring Emraan Hashmi, has shown impressive organic growth since its Friday release, coming tantalizingly close to the ₹10 crore mark in just four days.

How Did ‘Haq’ Perform on Day 4?

After a strong first weekend, Haq experienced the expected Monday dip that most films face as the work week begins. According to early estimates reported by Sacnilk, the film collected ₹1.00 crore on its fourth day. While this is a drop from its weekend numbers, it is a standard industry trend. The movie’s overall domestic profits have increased to ₹9.95 crore thanks to this collection, just missing the noteworthy ₹10 crore milestone.

What Drove the Film’s Weekend Surge?

Haq opened to a decent reception on Friday but saw a remarkable 100% growth in its collections on Saturday. The upswing lasted through Sunday, suggesting that audience recommendations were driving the trend. The film’s narrative, which was based on a significant real-life court case, struck a deep chord with audiences. The organic chatter on social media turned its slow start into a steadily building hit.

What is the Story Behind ‘Haq’?

The film tells the story of Shazia, played by Yami Gautam, a homely and uneducated woman married to a successful advocate, Abbas Khan, portrayed by Emraan Hashmi. Her life is shattered when Abbas brings home a second wife and shortly thereafter divorces Shazia using triple talaq. The rest of the narrative, directed by Suparn S Varma, follows Shazia’s arduous legal fight for her rights. The plot is inspired by the historic legal battle of Shah Bano Begum, a case that led the Supreme Court in 1985 to grant divorced Muslim women the right to maintenance.

How Has the Cast Reacted to the Response?

Yami Gautam has publicly acknowledged her appreciation for the movie’s natural success. She emphasized in her social media post that there was no “foul-play or any gimmicks,” attributing the movie’s success to a sincere audience connection. She also mentioned the favorable mood expressed by media and trade analysts, who she believes are supporting the success of a movie like Haq—a phenomena she refers to as a “rarity” in the current film industry.
