Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to posthumously award late actor Satish Shah the Padma Shri. In an emotional letter, the organization hailed Shah's illustrious career, terming him a "respected and admired figure" whose creative work left a lasting impression on Indian television and film.
In its letter to the Prime Minister, FWICE conveyed that Satish Shah was "a rare and talented artist whose work enriched lives, brought laughter, and evoked emotion to millions all over our country." The film fraternity remembered his iconic performances in shows and films like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, and Main Hoon Na, how these performances made him "a household name and an icon of excellence in the art of performing arts." The letter also emphasized Shah's versatility, sense of humour, and warmth, which made him so highly respected in the film fraternity.
FWICE also discussed the deceased actor's kindness off screen. According to the letter, "Apart from his gigantic talent, Shri Satish Shah was a soft and sensitive soul always supporting fellow artistes, technicians and the whole fraternity."
It further added that he was "well-respected by the working fraternity and contributed to a number of welfare activities of FWICE with liberality and kindness." His death, the letter added, "has created a sense of emotional loss in the hearts of all those who knew him and in the world of art he helped create."
Describing the Padma Shri as a well-deserved honor, FWICE termed the award as one that will not only felicitate a successful actor but "a man who made India smile for more than four decades and motivated many more to pursue their dream."
Veteran actor Satish Shah died on October 25, allegedly of kidney failure. His last rites were conducted the following day at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai in the presence of his close friends, colleagues, and family members. A prayer meeting was organized on October 27 at Jalaram Hall, Juhu, where fans flocked to bid farewell to the popular actor.
FWICE's appeal emphasizes the strong respect the industry has for Satish Shah a man who is not just being remembered for his talent but for his generosity of spirit, his wit, and the happiness he brought to Indian homes for more than four decades.
