Farewell to Laughter: Jaswinder Bhalla’s Demise Shocks Punjab

Punjabi actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla, celebrated for his iconic roles and humour, passed away in Mohali at 65, leaving fans and colleagues in deep sorrow.

Veteran Punjabi actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla, loved for his iconic roles and signature style of comedy, passed away on Friday (August 22) in Mohali. He was 65 years old. The actor breathed his last at Fortis Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment. Though he had been unwell for some time, the exact cause of his death has not been confirmed.

Outpouring of Grief

The news of Bhalla’s passing left the Punjabi film industry and fans across the world in shock. Many political leaders and celebrities paid tribute to the actor on social media.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann shared his condolences in Punjabi on his official X handle, writing:
“The sudden departure of Jaswinder Bhalla ji from this world is deeply saddening. The heart feels heavy with the silence of his laughter… May he rest in the feet of Waheguru. Uncle Chhatra will always live in our hearts.”

Popular actor Gippy Grewal remembered Bhalla with an emotional Instagram post, calling him a guiding force:
“It’s very hard to believe. I’m in shock. He was like a father, mentor, and the talented actor to us in the whole industry, creating memories and enjoying moments like family. Our bond was very strong. This is the worst news. May he rest in peace. All my strength to the family. His legacy will live on through his work, and his impact on our lives will never be forgotten. I’ll cherish the memories we shared and the lessons he taught me. You will always be in my heart @jaswinderbhalla Bhaji.”

Actress Jasmin Bhasin also expressed grief by resharing Gippy’s post, writing, “Waking up to the news of sad demise of Bhalla sir breaks my heart. I was lucky to work with you sir… I am sure you’ll be lighting up the heaven now with your positivity and love.”



Tributes From Co-Stars

Many of Bhalla’s colleagues remembered his contribution to Punjabi cinema. Actress Sonam Bajwa posted on Instagram:
“Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Jaswinder Bhalla ji. It was an honour to share the screen with such a legendary artist and the person he was. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. He will always be remembered. Rest in peace Sir.”

Last Rites on August 23

According to Punjabi media reports, Bhalla’s last rites will take place on August 23 at 12 pm at the Balongi Crematorium in Mohali. A huge number of fans, co-stars, and members of the Punjabi entertainment fraternity are expected to attend the ceremony to pay their final respects.
