Allegations against music composer Anu Malik in 2018 shook and impacted the life of the Bollywood music fraternity for many years to come and his family too.
His younger brother, composer Daboo Malik, now recently opened up about the emotional heat that punctuated the family at that time.
Disintegrating Family
Talking to Vickey Lalwani on YouTube, Daboo remembered the odds, saying, “It was just a very trying time. The allegations literally shattered us as a family. We cared for him deeply.
We emotionally supported him as much as possible. “It didn’t matter what experience or meetings came our way for him to revive his confidence at work,” Daboo said.

In addition, he reflected on their parents, aged 80 at that time. “Our parents, in such an age, could not understand the reality of the situation. They were especially shaken,” he stated as he thought of the emotional strain the allegation brought on them.
Facing the Brunt of Public Eye
According to Daboo, dealing with more people was yet another hurdle. “We take far too much notice of social media chatter.
We are musicians, not superstars like Shah Rukh Khan. So much talking about such issues usually extends their dimensions too much,” he explained.
MeToo Allegations Against Anu Malik
The charges were leveled against him as part of India’s #MeToo movement by many women singers, including Sona Mohapatra, Neha Bhasin and Alisha Chinai. Singer Shweta Pandit reported that Malik made her uncomfortable when she was just 15, claiming predatory behavior is typical in the music industry, Sona Mohapatra stated.

These allegations resulted in the dismissal of Malik from his post as a judge in the show Indian Idol, an irremediable loss regarding his profession.
Anu Malik Speaks Out
In 2019, Malik spoke about the accusations out in the public realm, saying the reports were false and unverified. Earlier, he explained how such incidents affected not only him professionally but also disturbed the family as a whole during this ordeal.

“Ever since the allegations, my reputation has gone down, and my family is traumatized. As a father of two daughters, I cannot even think of doing things which have been accused of me,” said Malik.
Moving On
Daboo can say what it is like to be put in emotional trauma that family members face when such allegations are made.
They bring to light unnecessary attention toward misconduct going on in the industry, which is largely true and necessary, but also the picture that is not painted usually about how human lives affected by these events come through public controversies.
