Days after becoming a non-executive director at Sona Comstar, the auto parts firm once chaired by her late husband Sunjay Kapur, Priya Sachdev updated her social media to reflect her new role and identity. On Instagram, she now describes herself as a “non-executive director” and uses the handle Priya Sunjay Kapur instead of her previous name, Priya Sachdev Kapur.

Sunjay Kapur died recently in a tragic and unusual incident during a polo match in England. He reportedly suffered cardiac arrest after accidentally swallowing a bee. His last rites were held in New Delhi.

Family Dispute Over Late Husband’s Estate

Following his sudden death, a legal conflict has erupted over Sunjay’s estate, which is reportedly worth thousands of crores. Just before the company’s annual general meeting, his mother, Rani Kapur, wrote to the board expressing concern. In her letter, she claimed she was “compelled to sign various documents without explanation” and suggested that “certain people” were presenting themselves as family representatives.

Though Rani didn’t mention names, it was widely assumed she was referring to Priya. Sunjay and Priya share a son named Azarius. Priya also has a daughter, Safira, from her previous marriage to Vikram Chatwal. Interestingly, Safira, who earlier used her father’s last name on social media, now identifies simply by her first name.

Priya’s Background and Marriage History

Priya entered the entertainment industry as a model in the early 2000s and made a brief appearance in the film Neal ‘n’ Nikki. Her marriage to Vikram Chatwal ended in 2011 after a lengthy custody battle. She married Sunjay Kapur in 2017, after his split with actor Karisma Kapoor.

Sunjay has two children with Karisma, Samaira and Kiaan. According to reports, he created bonds worth ₹14 crore for each of them and gave Karisma ownership of a house as part of their settlement.

Priya Described the Blended Family as ‘Beautiful’

Just a few weeks before Sunjay passed away, Priya spoke about his previous marriage with Karisma in an interview on the Kin and Kindness YouTube channel. She said, “Sunjay’s previous marriage was not a conventional marriage. He had two beautiful children from that marriage. We love them dearly and today we are one beautiful blended family.”

Filmmaker Shares View on Karisma-Sunjay Marriage

Recently, filmmaker Suneel Darshan also weighed in on the couple’s past relationship. In a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Darshan recalled seeing their relationship falter. When asked whether Sunjay treated Karisma like a “trophy wife”, he replied, “I think that’s where the problems came from, for the family. That’s what she had become. She was placed into a world that was not hers.”

He elaborated that “Delhi has its own culture, and she wasn’t fitting into that culture.” Despite living in a large, luxurious home with “an endless number of cars,” Darshan noted that Karisma had already seen fame as “Raj Kapoor’s granddaughter” and had been “the number one heroine for a duration.” He added, “When she decided to recede, she wanted to live the life of a wife.”
