The Congress has already given indications that it would move the Supreme Court if the Rajasthan Governor returns the Gehlot government’s proposal to summon the state Assembly this time. The party is hoping that the Governor will not disregard the Constitution. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has sent a strong reply to the Governor’s objections while seeking Assembly session from 31 July. Now, experts believe that Kalraj Mishra is left with no choice but to accept the state government’s proposal.

CM Gehlot has clarified about the no-confidence motion that the Business Advisory Committee has the responsibility to decide the business of the house and the agenda. It is the responsibility of the Speaker of the Assembly to safeguard, during Covid times, the health of MLA and others working in the legislature. Gehlot has made it very clear that he will not compromise.

Meanwhile, the BJP’s stand on the entire row is getting weak, legally and constitutionally. If the Governor still returns the proposal under pressure from Delhi, then the Congress will expose the BJP. P.D.T. Achari, former general secretary of the Lok Sabha, says that the Governor will have to accept the government’s proposal and he cannot ignore the Constitution. On the other hand, Congress strategists believe that the BJP is trying to reduce the number by dragging the matter of the Bahujan Samaj Party MLAs to the court after failing to lure Congress legislators.

To showcase solidarity, many big Congress leaders will be present on Wednesday when new state president Govind Singh Dotasara will take over the charge.

Sources believe the Congress sees Rajasthan as an opportunity to unite and then revive the party. After the Gujarat elections, where the Congress gave a good fight to the ruling BJP, the party won in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, but after that it lost in the Lok Sabha elections. Its workers were further demoralised after the Congress lost its governments in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, where BJP regained powers. But for the first time, in Rajasthan, the Congress is seen to be giving the BJP a good fight. And the Congress leadership sees this as a sign of changing fortunes for the party.
