The three miscreants first completed the journey from Madhya Pradesh to Ghaziabad, and then got special tattoos made on their bodies to carry out the crime. The police are also surprised to know this modus operandi of committing the crime. The miscreants had come to NCR from Madhya Pradesh on the day of Purnima (full moon) only to carry out the robbery and they were waiting for Amawasya (new moon) to return. The matter came to light from Ghaziabad, when three miscreants opened fire on the police, and the police also opened fire.

The whole matter came to the fore in Avantika of Kavinagar police station area of Ghaziabad. Ghaziabad SP City Nipun Aggarwal told The Daily Guardian that on Sunday midnight, the police had received information that miscreants were roaming in the area to carry out a major robbery. When the police started checking, three suspects were found roaming on the side of the railway line. As soon as they were interrogated, they opened fire on the police, in which a policeman was injured. The police also opened fire in which Karan named “The Crook” was injured, and his two companions were also caught by the police. Karan and the injured policeman have been admitted to hospital. When the remaining two companions were interrogated, shocking revelations were made.

Before every robbery, they used to take off their clothes and get special tattoos made on their body. People of this gang come from the “ghumantu species”. They used to change tattoos from time to time. The motive behind their modus operandi was that if the victim saw the tattoos on their bodies, they would mention it to the police. But they knew that when the police caught them, they would not have the tattoo on their bodies. Or they would have other tattoos, and hence, proper evidence will not be available against them. Till now, these miscreants have committed dozens of criminal incidents.

Police have recovered two pistols and some tools and slingshots from the three accused. These people also used to kill their victims with a slingshot. Apart from this, tattoo making machines have also been recovered from the accused. According to the police, all the three accused had come to NCR from Madhya Pradesh on the day of Purnima (full moon) only to carry out the robbery and theft. The money earned from looting and theft was sent to Madhya Pradesh throughout the year. The robbers would wait for Amavasya (new moon night) to return to their homes. The biggest question before the police is about the robbers’ choice of Purnima (full moon) and Amavasya (new moon night). Do robbers believe in superstitions along with being modern?  One the one hand, the tattoo modus operandi has perplexed police, and, on the other hand, the link between full moon and new moon points towards some tantra mantra.
