The alleged abduction and gangrape of a married woman in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara has turned out to be fake with the police saying that she willingly went with two men for consensual physical relations.
The 25-year-old woman had earlier claimed that she was kidnapped by the duo who took her to an abandoned house where she was raped and thrashed on Saturday night. She also claimed that the men took away her clothes.
The Gangapur police arrested two accused in this case. The police had also registered a case of gang rape and initiated an investigation.
Regarding this case, the Additional Superintendent of Police of Bhilwara, while addressing the press late Saturday night, said that information was received at the Gangapur police station that a woman was standing naked on Aamli Road in the police station area.
On information from a local about a naked woman seeking help, police reached the spot and took her to a police station. SHO, Gangapur, Narendra Jain said one of the two accused called the married woman to a spot in the district, from where the two took her to an abandoned house at Amli road and raped her. The accused were rounded up and questioned.
However, On Sunday the Police said the woman willingly went with two men, but a dispute arose after they insisted on her spending the night with them.
According to the police, the woman wanted to return to her house, but the men forced her to stay. So, she took off her clothes, came out of the house and sought help from a passerby claiming she was gang-raped.
“She narrated a concocted story as she was afraid that her husband would abandon her if he came to know about the facts,” a police officer said.
The accused were detained and questioned, and the call recordings of their mobile phones revealed that the woman had talked to them on Saturday evening and agreed to meet for money.
She met Chhotu Sargara and Girdhari at the abandoned house on Amli Road and had consensual physical relations with them, police said. The police said that the woman originally hails from Odisha and was married to a 50-year-old differently-abled man from Bhilwara six years ago.
The political atmosphere in Gangapur, however, has heated up following allegations by the BJP district president, Prashant Mevada. He led a delegation of BJP officials who submitted a memorandum to the Governor, accusing the police of pressuring a gang rape victim to give a false statement.
In the memorandum, the BJP alleged that the law and order situation in Rajasthan has deteriorated, with daily incidents of kidnappings and gang rapes.
According to the memorandum, the incident in Gangapur involved five individuals, but the police have only arrested two suspects. The BJP raised questions about the veracity of the victim’s statement and suggested that the police’s handling of the case highlights their incompetence.
Prashant Mevada, BJP District President said, “We demand a high-level investigation into this case and impartial action against the guilty parties. The victim should receive justice.”
