Petrol pumps across Jammu and Kashmir, operated by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), are on the brink of running dry starting tomorrow as the Jammu and Kashmir Tank Owners Association has refused to lift petrol and diesel. The Association’s decision stems from their dissatisfaction with an amended tender issued by BPCL, deeming it unacceptable.
The strike by the Tanker Association has led to the closure of BPCL-run oil depots in the region for the past two days. Approximately 160 petrol pumps in Jammu and Kashmir are anticipated to face fuel shortages for an indefinite period due to the ongoing strike, causing significant inconvenience to the public
The root cause of the strike is reported to be the transport tender issued by BPCL.
The Corporation has informed the government about the situation, seeking assistance. The Tank Owners Association is not only refraining from lifting supplies but also preventing others from doing so. Some petrol pumps have already exhausted their stock, and others are expected to follow suit from tomorrow, exacerbating the fuel shortage crisis.
The Tanker Association asserts that the amended tender issued by BPCL on January 18 has not been modified as promised during a meeting with the Corporation.
Officials have raised concerns that certain vested interests are attempting to disrupt the company’s operations, and if not addressed promptly, it may escalate into a law and order problem.
The government has assured its support to BPCL in resolving the situation and mitigating the potential impact on the fuel supply chain in the region.
