This is the third such incident in Jammu in three days. Earlier, terrorists fired in Kathua, injuring a civilian, and attacked a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi, killing nine passengers.
Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu zone, said a terrorist was killed in an encounter in Kathua last night. He is overseeing the anti-terrorist operation.
Regarding the Doda incident, he said terrorists fired at a joint team of police and Rashtriya Rifles at an army base in the Chattargala area late last night. The encounter continues in the higher areas.
Jammu has been a target for many terrorist attacks recently, even in areas that were previously considered safe.
Police said two terrorists were involved in the Kathua attack last evening, with one of them killed. Security forces are now using drones to search for the second terrorist in the Hiranagar area of Kathua.
The terrorists had asked for water from several houses, which made villagers suspicious. When some villagers raised an alarm, the terrorists opened fire, injuring one civilian. Mr. Jain denied reports that three people died in the Kathua attack.
“There are rumors that many people are injured and three are dead. But only one civilian was injured; other than this, all information about hostages and deaths are rumors,” he said.
He also called the Kathua attack a “fresh infiltration” and suggested Pakistan’s involvement without naming it.
