KISHTWAR, July 9: Four people were killed and two others injured when a light motor vehicle (LMV) bearing registration number JK1K 5426 met with an accident near the Tandar area of Dachan in Kishtwar district.

Upon learning of the accident, locals immediately rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. A team from the Kishtwar Police, stationed at Police Post Dangduru, also arrived swiftly to assist in the rescue efforts. All passengers were rescued and taken to the nearest health center for first aid.

According to reports, three passengers died at the scene, while three others suffered serious injuries. The injured were transported to District Hospital Kishtwar, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Fatima Begum, wife of Iflal Wani; Madiya Wani, daughter of Iflal Wani; and Altamash Wani, son of Iflal Wani. All were residents of Sounder Dachhan, and their bodies have been returned to Sounder Dachhan.

The injured have been identified as Iflal Wani, son of Sanaulah Wani; Khatija Banoo, daughter of Iflal Wani; and Radia Banoo, daughter of Iflal Wani. They are also residents of Sounder Dachhan and are currently being treated at District Hospital Kishtwar.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, MoS PMO, expressed his condolences for the lives lost in the accident. Dr. Singh tweeted, “I am in constant touch with DC #Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav following tragic road accident in which a private Alto vehicle rolled down a deep gorge at Dachan area leading to loss of 4 lives and injuries to 2. The injured are being shifted to District hospital. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families. All possible help being provided.”
