The leadership transition at tech company OpenWeb has taken an unexpected turn after its founder, Nadav Shoval, refused to step down from his CEO role. This development led to a tense exchange of public statements and internal emails between Shoval and the newly appointed interim CEO, Tim Harvey, as the company moves forward with the transition.
Nadav Shoval took to LinkedIn to make it clear that he had not resigned as CEO. In his post, he stated, “I have not stepped down as OpenWeb’s CEO,” asserting that the company had breached his contract. Shoval accused the Board of Directors of failing to address concerns he had raised about their conduct. Instead of resolving the issues, the Board announced his replacement during a sudden company-wide meeting. Shoval was adamant in his refusal to accept these decisions, saying, “I do not accept these actions. I will continue to fight for OpenWeb’s mission and purpose alongside our team.”
Following the leadership announcement, Shoval sent an email to OpenWeb staff, as reported by Fortune, expressing his disagreement. “The board has falsely stated that I am stepping out of my role as CEO,” he said in the email, clarifying that it was neither his intent nor his decision. He made it clear to his colleagues that he had no plans to relinquish his position voluntarily.
Tim Harvey, the newly appointed interim CEO, responded to Shoval’s email, emphasizing that the company was moving forward with the leadership transition. In his email, Harvey wrote, “We are progressing with the CEO transition process as planned,” as reported by Israeli outlet CTech. He reassured staff that the company would handle the situation with respect for everyone involved and remain focused on OpenWeb’s success and partnerships.
OpenWeb has already made changes to its website, replacing Shoval’s name with Tim Harvey as the interim CEO. In a public statement to the media, the company welcomed Harvey and expressed gratitude to Shoval for his contributions as the founder and former CEO. The company acknowledged Shoval’s passion and dedication but confirmed that the leadership transition was underway.
This internal conflict highlights the challenges OpenWeb faces as it moves forward with its new leadership, amid strong resistance from its founder.
