GENEVA, March 22: In a passionate address to the United Nations, M.K Ajatshatru Singh, former minister and scion of the royal family of Jammu and Kashmir, hailed the bold decision of the Indian government to abrogate Article 370 from the region, describing it as a crucial step towards rectifying longstanding injustices endured by its people.
Singh highlighted the tangible benefits of the constitutional reforms introduced in 2019, noting a significant decline in terrorist incidents by over 70% since their implementation. He underscored the remarkable socio-economic progress witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir, including a substantial reduction in poverty rates and significant budget allocations for developmental initiatives.
While acknowledging the strides made in infrastructure development and cultural preservation, Singh expressed deep concern about economic disparities persisting in regions under Pakistani occupation. As a direct descendant of the region’s historic rulers, he empathized with the plight of those living in such areas.
Appealing to the United Nations, Singh urged concrete actions aligned with Security Council resolutions to address the challenges faced by people living under Pakistani occupation in Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed the imperative of addressing their grievances and safeguarding their fundamental rights, calling for international intervention to ensure justice and equality for all residents of the region.
