Former IPS officer joins Punjab Congress

On Thursday , the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring extended a warm welcome to IPS Sudesh Kumar, former Director General of Police, who had expressed his desire to align with the Congress in Punjab. The induction ceremony took place at the Punjab Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh.

Sudesh Kumar belongs to Village Simbli, Tehsil Garh Shankar, Distt. Hoshiarpur. He had his education at Govt. High School,Simbli and DAV College, Jalandhar. He is a Gold Medalist in B.A(Hons.), and holds 3 Master Degrees. He speaks 6 languages (Punjabi, Hindi, Malayalam, English, French and Swahili)

He is a highly accomplished and decorated police officer, and is the recipient of

  • President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, 2013.
  • Police Medal for Meritorious Service, 2003.
  • United Nations Peacekeeping Medal, 2009
  • Police (Special Duty) Medal, 2013

With professional experience in different departments of the Govt. of Kerala and Govt. of India, Sudesh Kumar is the first IPS officer from India to be selected by the United Nations as a Police Commissioner for the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In Congo, he successfully led a multi-national team of professional police officers from 25 French speaking countries of West Africa, Middle East, Europe, and South America, and carried out the reform and restructuring of the national police.
Commenting on his induction, Sh. Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said – “With his essential experience over the years, Sudesh Ji brings with him highly developed police, disaster management, industrial security, border management, international peacekeeping, and advocacy and diplomatic skills.”

Talking to the media, Sudesh Kumar said – “I had a strong desire to join the Indian National Congress as this party has built the nation brick by brick. This party is the only secular, casteless, political institution of the country. The vision of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Mrs. Indira Gandhi has laid the foundations of economic development in this country by implementing a robust public sector programme, green revolution, space and nuclear industry, liberal economic policy, and by launching diverse social development programmes.”Concluding his speech, Raja Warring said – «I am delighted to embrace such capable figures into our fold. This addition contributes positively to our growth trajectory. Together, we remain committed to advancing Punjab›s welfare, especially with the infusion of such an accomplished individual.
