Mumbai police successfully foiled a plan orchestrated by a former employee and a driver of a paper businessman to abscond with a bag containing nearly Rs 8 lakh last week. The authorities apprehended the two culprits, recovered Rs 7.25 lakh, and are actively pursuing an accomplice still at large.
The incident unfolded on November 26 around 8:45 pm when Dinesh Chavan, an ex-employee of paper trader Suresh Nisar, 45, was transporting Rs 7.98 lakh in a bag.
As he walked along LBS Road in Bhandup, a motorcyclist allegedly approached and made off with the bag. Subsequently, Nisar reported the incident to the Bhandup police, prompting the registration of an FIR.
Investigating the case, the police discovered that earlier that day, Chavan and the tempo driver Raju Gupta, 27, had traveled to Panvel for a paper delivery, following which they were entrusted with the money.
Upon their return to Bhandup, the duo parked the vehicle and informed Nisar. At Nisar’s behest, Chavan was instructed to secure the money in the office. Unfortunately, while en route to the office, the bag was snatched. The police scrutinized the mobile records of the two employees, revealing constant communication between Gupta and one Kishore Damodar, 28, a former employee of the paper trader who had been terminated.
Based on their investigation, the police determined that Gupta and Damodar had masterminded the plan, exploiting their knowledge of the substantial sums Chavan was responsible for safeguarding in the office. The authorities apprehended both culprits, and further inquiries revealed their collaboration with Rahul Dongre, who aided in snatching the bag. Dongre is currently evading capture.
