During the festival season, the demand for mithai is high, and festivals are incomplete without sweets. However, there are concerns about adulteration and low-quality food products. The Food Safety Department of U.T. Chandigarh is actively conducting raids and maintaining vigilant oversight during this festive period.
A joint team of Food Safety Officers from U.T. Chandigarh recently inspected the Grain Market and Village Daria, seizing four samples and issuing five challans. Approximately 50 kgs of Namkeen and sweets were disposed of due to exposure to dust and unhygienic conditions.
The Food Safety and Standards department of Chandigarh Administration appeals to residents and consumers to exercise caution when purchasing food items, including milk, milk products, bakery products, beverages, and dry fruits. They are urged to ensure that the items they buy come from licensed shops that maintain hygiene and use quality products to safeguard their health. In case of any concerns or abnormalities, consumers are encouraged to report them to the Food Safety & Standards Department or through the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India web portal.
