Kuwait’s Foreign Minister, Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, assured Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh of the “early repatriation” of the mortal remains of Indians killed in the recent fire incident at a labour housing facility in the Mangaf area of Kuwait. Al-Yahya also expressed condolences and promised full support in medical care and the investigation of the incident.
“MoS @KVSinghMPGonda called on FM of Kuwait H.E. Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya in Kuwait. FM Yahya conveyed his condolences on the tragic incident. He assured full support including for medical care, early repatriation of mortal remains, and investigation of the incident,” the Indian Embassy in Kuwait posted on X.
Singh visited Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital, where seven injured Indians are receiving treatment. He ensured their well-being and assured them of the Indian government’s support. Singh also appreciated the hospital authorities, doctors, and nurses for their care.
Upon arrival in Kuwait, Singh immediately went to Jaber Hospital, where he met six more injured Indians. Over 40 Indians died, and more than 50 were injured in the fire, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The injured are being treated in five government hospitals in Kuwait: Adan, Jaber, Farwaniya, Mubarak Al Kabeer, and Jahra hospitals. Most patients are reported to be stable.
“The Embassy is ascertaining the full details from the concerned Kuwaiti authorities and the company. We offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” the MEA said in a release. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait remains in touch with local authorities to provide relief to those affected and has established a helpline for family members to get updates.
Before his departure, Singh stated that some bodies had been charred beyond recognition. “The rest of the situation will be clear the moment we reach there,” he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting and announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the families of the deceased Indian nationals. Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extended condolences, and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured, assuring all possible assistance from the Indian government.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, “The meeting was chaired at his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi. Prime Minister announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh to the families of deceased Indian nationals from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.”
