Five construction workers lost their lives when loose soil collapsed on them while they were digging a pit for an underground tank at a construction site in Gujarat’s Mehsana district on Saturday. According to police, the accident occurred near Kadi town, around 37 km from the district headquarters.
Several laborers were working on the excavation when the soil caved in, trapping them beneath. So far, five bodies have been recovered, while authorities fear that three to four others are still buried under the debris.
Police inspector Prahaladsinh Vaghela confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing as efforts continue to locate and retrieve the trapped workers.
