Ali Fazal has impressed fans with his lean and mean look in Mirzapur Season 3, which premiered on Prime Video a few days ago. The action-packed series features him as Guddu Pandit, the “Babubali of Purvanchal”. He collaborated with Rohit Nair to get into the shape for the part.
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Guardian, the fitness coach opened up about helping Ali Fazal get the right look for the show and revealed that it was a challenging task.
“He was bulkier when we started and we initially focused on the action scenes. Then we did weight training. The idea was to give him a lesser fat percentage without reducing the frame. Guddu is an imposing character and the brief clearly was to not make the frame less. This was needed as the character is now physically more capable than before,” he said.
Nair went on to reveal that Ali Fazal is a perfectionist and likes to understand each aspect of whatever he does on screen. He also said that he was impressed by the Fukrey star’s passion.
“Working with Ali has been challenging as he likes everything in depth. If he is needed to perform a certain action in the series then he will learn everything around it, We did several combinations of the action sequences and then he chose what was best. He does whatever he does, right from the diet to his daily routine,” added the trainer.
Mirzapur, which premiered in 2018, emerged as a massive success because of its intense narrative and powerful performances. The first season ended on a brutal note with Munna (Divyenndu) murdering Guddu’s near and dear ones. The second season debuted on OTT in 2020 and centrered on Guddu’s revenge. The latest and third season traces the unhinged character’s attempts at consolidating his standing in Purvanchal.
It also traces his changing equation with Golu (Shweta Tripathi Sharma). Mirzapur Season 3 also features Rasika Dugal, Pankaj Tripathi, Isha Talwar, and Vijay Varma.
All 10 episodes of Mirzapur 3 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
