Delhi Police on Thursday filed a first information report (FIR) regarding the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Bibhav Kumar, the personal assistant to the Delhi CM, has been identified as an accused in the FIR, according to a PTI report.
The FIR was filed under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to violence against women, according to officials.
The case was registered after a two-member team, led by Additional Commissioner of Police P S Kushwaha, took Swati Maliwal’s statement at her residence in Central Delhi.
Maliwal publicly addressed the alleged incident for the first time after providing her statement to the Delhi Police, urging the BJP not to engage in political maneuvers.
“Hope appropriate action is taken. Whatever happened with me was extremely bad,” she posted on X, two days after the incident.
“The past days have been very difficult for me. I thank those who prayed. Those who tried to indulge in character assassination, said that I was doing it at the behest of the other party, God bless them too,” she added.
She emphasized the ongoing significance of crucial elections and reiterated that her individual importance pales in comparison to the country’s issues.
Earlier, the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha expressed solidarity with Maliwal, highlighting that the incident impacts the dignity of women in the country. In a letter addressed to Maliwal, Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha President Richa Pandey Mishra, a former AAP member, encouraged her to seek police intervention to ensure the perpetrators face severe consequences.
The letter assured Maliwal of the full support of the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha.
“We laud your resolve and bravery and hope you will soon recover from this incident to discharge your responsibility to strengthen the struggle for the rights of the women in the country,” read the letter.
Maliwal, however, made a “special request to BJP people to not do politics on this incident.”
