In Australia, a 22-year-old MTech student was fatally stabbed during a dispute among Indian students, as reported by the victim’s uncle on Monday. The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 9 pm local time in Melbourne, resulting in another student sustaining injuries.

Navjeet Sandhu, the victim, was stabbed with a knife by another student while attempting to mediate a disagreement between several Indian students regarding rent, according to his uncle, Yashvir. Yashvir, who is due to retire from the Army in July, explained that Navjeet’s friend, also an Indian student, had requested Navjeet’s assistance in retrieving belongings from his residence.

While the friend was indoors, Navjeet heard commotion and witnessed a physical altercation. He intervened to defuse the situation, urging them to cease fighting, but tragically, he was fatally stabbed in the chest during the altercation. Both Navjeet and the accused are from Karnal.

Yashvir shared that the family received news of the incident early Sunday morning. Navjeet’s friend, who was with him at the time, also sustained injuries during the altercation. Describing Navjeet as a brilliant student eagerly anticipating joining his family for vacation in July, Yashvir expressed the family’s profound shock over the tragedy.

Navjeet had moved to Australia on a study visa approximately a year and a half ago, with his father, a farmer, having sold one and a half acres of their land to finance his education. Yashvir appealed to the Government of India for assistance in expediting the repatriation of Navjeet’s remains.
