As tensions flare in the Middle East, Jammu and Kashmir’s political scene is also heating up ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections. Farooq Abdullah has expressed strong confidence in his party’s alliance with Congress, affirming that the National Conference-Congress coalition is well-positioned to secure a majority across all 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. This pre-poll alliance, finalized in August, is part of a larger strategy to restore democratic governance in the region after a prolonged period without elected representation. Abdullah has also been vocal about his demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s full statehood, a key issue that resonates with many voters as they head to the polls.
